Kimikaa Artist Statement: I have a great interest in community and the colors they create. The fragmented moments they share. The emotions in between spaces, shattered and carried throughout our lives. To notice, to make an account, drives me. These paintings are about the pleasures of being aware of the world around me and telling these stories from many angles. Diving into these shapes and juxtaposition help me push between the paint, my subject and experience. Exploring community with an expanding grasp of shape, color, and process. 

 

Curator Note: Painted after a friends wedding in Tulum, while tanning and drinking cervezas at Hotel Casa Malca. I used the water from Tulum's shoreline out the empty Corona bottle.
